The first Community Fun Walk for Karratha
The Karratha Community Association held its inaugural Community Fun Walk last Saturday – with almost 200 people taking to the Jaburara Heritage Trail.
As buses from the registration point at the Pilbara TAFE continued to arrive at the starting point at the Karratha Visitor Centre, association treasurer Peta Mott said she would be happy if 100 people took up the challenge.
Ms Mott said the walk would definitely become an annual event to bring together the community.
Walkers, and some who ran the trail, included families, work colleagues, organisations and even members of the Pilbara Regiment. One determined, and obviously fit, father had one child on his back and made the offer to carry his other child up the first hill.
At the end of the walk, which took most about 90 minutes to complete, those taking part said it had been hard work but worth the effort.
Karratha Visitor Centre general manager Kyle Barnes said he had not walked the trail since last winter but the scenery was as breathtaking as ever.
“It’s a fantastic walk, although you do need to be careful in some spots, and a really great way to view Karratha. It gives you a completely different perspective of the town.”
The day finished with Twilight Tunes at the Walkington Theatre.
