Team spirit in rugby, on and off the field
Hedland Junior Rugby League hosted Karratha Junior Rugby League last Saturday at the McGregor Street oval in Port Hedland.
Several matches were staggered over the day from under 8s up to under 18s, allowing members of the Hedland teams to play matches against visiting teams Karratha Broncos and Karratha Storm.
The point of the event was not so much the scores at the end of the day, but the opportunity to play against each other and have fun participating in the sport.
Hedland’s Naps Levi said it was a family type of day and that the kids all had great fun.
“It was a really good day; they were all pumped,” he said.
As an aside, Mr Levi showed a little more of his community spirit after his day of rugby league by volunteering on the spot to help draw up the lines for the “Inclusion Festival” wheelchair basketball match held in the carpark of Marapikurrinya Park beside the harbour.
Festival organiser Sister Jo Foley wishes to say thank you. She was over the moon with the random kindness of many community members and, with Naps Levi’s help, the basketball rocked on until it was dark.
