Newsagency to make way for new development
It’s the classic “end of an era” story for Hedland’s News and Lotteries store on Wedge St, with the newsagency closing its doors for the last time on Saturday, March 3.
Due to upcoming upgrades to Wedge St, which the team at the newsagency has been aware of for a couple of years now, the store will make way for new infrastructure.
As the final visiting cruise liner travellers headed back to their ship, newsagency staff were busy locking up and holding a mini party of their own to celebrate their final day on the job.
Store manager Erin Wilcock and her sidekick shop assistants Nat Barwick and Kylie Leonard were in good spirits and Erin wished to thank the people of Port Hedland who have supported the business over the past six years.
“I have very mixed emotions, having been in Hedland for twelve years, now leaving the business,” she said.
“My staff over the last six years have just been absolutely fabulous and over the last three days it’s been pretty evident with the customer comments.
“They’re great girls.”
Erin added that Port Hedland has been a wonderful life for her husband and herself.
“We’ve had the best time here; it’s been fantastic,” she said.
Erin will head to her farm outside of Donnybrook whilst her husband, who’s lived in Port Hedland for 16 years, will continue to fly in and out for work.
