Hold on to your hats theatre lovers and budding arts admirers!

You may see all sorts of building happening outside the Matt Dann Cultural Centre, but never fear, the theatre is in full swing and can’t wait to feature a fabulous array of shows and movies throughout the year.

That’s right, looks can be deceiving, books can’t be judged by their cover (and clichés are gold), but

the cultural centre launched its 2012 program at the end of March and, tell you what, it’s worthwhile making this the year to dress your best and book tickets for some top notch theatrical events.

At the season launch, a relaxed affair on March 30, production coordinator Brad Holder drew attention to a range of great live shows heading to Hedland.

To whet everyone’s appetites, here are the first three:

“CIRCA”, April 26, is touted by the Performing Lines company as “circus stripped bare”, an extraordinary, acrobatic show with performers contorting themselves through mind-bending aerial displays and bodies pushed to the extreme.

A British newspaper described it as, “knee tremblingly sexy, beautiful and moving.”

Matt Dann staff might even jump up and down or giggle gleefully if you ask them about it.

Not sure?

Maybe try it out.

Meanwhile, ever have an invisible friend?

“Me and my Shadow”, Tues, May 1, is a show about a girl whose imagination helps her figure out how to be friends with her own shadow.

This inspiration sparking show for 4-8 year olds is described by presenters Patch Theatre Company as having “fantastical imagery, quirky physical performances and an intriguing score…in a poetical experience that explores the frustrations and joys of friendship.”

Mums and dads, you might see it as the chance to transport your children into a world where possibilities are as endless as a Pilbara sky and as vivid as its sunsets.

It will be on at 10am and 1pm so schools might find this enticing too.

Come June 16 and 17, a troupe of touring, titillating terrors prepare to wreak havoc in Hedland (and take the mickey out of Karratha) in the annual sellout extravaganza that is the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow.

(Cue laughter).

That’s always a hit, so be ready to book!

In the meantime, the cultural centre would love you to join “Matt’s Mates” for discount tickets, specials and priority bookings.
