191 Bags and Three Syringes
CARE held a short, sharp cleanup last Sunday, with 45 people participating in the group’s second cleanup for 2012.
The group and volunteers were able to cover almost all of Millars Well.
“The area is looking markedly cleaner after our morning’s efforts,” CARE member Dan Pedersen said.
“Special mention goes to the Karratha Scouts and SAFE volunteers, who turned out in great numbers to support the event.”
In total, they pulled 191 bags of rubbish (and three syringes) from the roadsides, creeks, drains, bicycle paths and parks of the Millars Well area.
The event also raised a total of $1,146.00 for SAFE – a great boost for a worthy organisation.
“We’re already planning our next community cleanup, which will take place in July, the proceeds from which will go to the Karratha Softball Club,” Dan Pedersen said.
“We’ll provide more details on this in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
“On a final note, we simply can’t achieve such fantastic results without the support from community volunteers like yourselves.
“Thank you for helping to make our town a cleaner and safer place to live and visit.”
