Reward day at Millars Well
Last Monday and Tuesday, students at Millars Well Primary School enjoyed their participation in a rewards day.
Clint from Rad Rock Mobile Climbing visited the school and each class from year one through to seven enjoyed an hour of challenging climbing.
The Rewards Day is recognition for the positive behaviour of the majority of students for the term.
The idea to reward positive behaviour originated in 2011 from a review of the school behaviour management policy, where rather than simply being a punitive policy outlining the consequences for inappropriate behaviour the school community focused on methods to reward the majority of students who consistently display appropriate behaviour.
Thus every semester students must qualify for the rewards program, by not being suspended or having three visits to buddy class.
The Rewards program seems to be a big incentive for students and we have seen around a 40% decrease in the number of suspensions and visits to buddy class this semester alone.
The Rock Climbing was incredibly well received by the students and the teachers and most challenged themselves to reach the top of the summit!
