Junior Hockey goes up a whole new level

The Nickol Bay Hockey Association took hockey to a whole new level when the Hook in2 Hockey program started 10 weeks ago.

Finishing last Tuesday, 70 children aged between five and 12 attended the program to learn lots of new skills through fun games.

Ten weeks ago, people might remember when players from the Australian hockey team the Kookaburra’s visited the town.

It was then when the registration for the program was held with the Kookaburra’s also holding training for the young hockey players.

NBHA Junior Representative Trudi Tunstead said they have also been running quizzes and competitions about the Kookaburra’s.

“We have had a great turn out and everyone seems to making great progress and enjoying themselves,” she said about the young players in the town.

“We will now be running competitive hockey games for term three to enable the kids to learn gameplay.”

All primary school aged children are welcome to attend the Junior Hockey Competition, which will be held every Tuesday starting on July 31 between 4.30-5.30pm.

Registration day will be held on Tuesday, July 24 at at 4.30pm, with games starting at 5pm and going for 30 mins.

If you are already a member all you need to do is pay your fee.

Teams and coaches will be emailed out before the following weeks game.

Cost will be $20 for the season, which includes a pair of socks.

The NBHA require a minimum of 12 parent helpers in order for the compeitition to run.

“We would love as many helpers as we can get,” Trudi said.

For more information, head down to the registration day on Tuesday, July 24 at the Pegs Creek oval.
