Junior Soprano produced an exciting finish to win The $10,000 Goodline Handicap (2050m) at The Port Hedland Turf Club Ladies Day Meeting last Sunday.

A good crowd hovering around 1,000 people were impressed with Junior Soprano’s win, which saw the five-year-old come from last at the 600 metre mark to win easily.

In the home straight, many horses looked a winning chance, including Racso and Stormish, but they all had no answer to the strong finish of Junior Soprano.

Trainer, Ray Malpass now has The Port Hedland Cup firmly in his sights and a repeat performance will put Junior Soprano right in the finish.

Leading Jockey, Jeffrey Berry continued his winning run.  riding a double, onboard Prince Bellagio and Wallyworld.

Prince Bellagio led throughout to win The $8,250 Bear & Rabbit Handicap (1200m), ensuring the stranglehold Anne King has on The Caltex Australia Trainer of The Year Award.

Wallyworld ran up to his ability by winning The $8,000 QSD Works Handicap (1600m).

Kept safe in the betting, he came with a great finish in the final 200 metres to rundown Whalah, who looked the winner.

Tenpin continued his love affair with the Port Hedland track, winning The $10,000 Ceacon Handicap(1300m).

In a race of tactics in the small field, Tenpin was always in contention and jockey, Danny Miller, kicked the nine-year-old clear at the top of the straight.

He then held off the expected challenge from I’m Called Earl, but Tenpin was never going to lose and maintained his great record at Port Hedland.

He now has five wins and four placings from his nine starts at The Port track.

Visiting Broome trainer, Tom Pike and jockey, Colin Haddon, made the trip worthwhile when Carooned took out The $8,800 Urban Sole Handicap (1400m).

Runaway Leader, Princess Deidre established a seven length lead early in the race.

However, Carooned got within three lengths near the home corner and in the straight it was a great battle, with Carooned getting there on the post.

Hotsing ran home well to win The $7,250 Centurion Transport Maiden (1200m), favorite Brynbella looked the winner at the 200 metre mark, but Hotsing flew in the final stages to grab victory.

It’s now time for ‘The Cup’s’; Roebourne Cup is on this Saturday, while Port Hedland Cup is on Monday, August 6.
