Fringe On The Road
Karratha will be the first in regional Western Australia to experience the world famous Spiegeltent at the inaugural FRINGE On-The-Road.
FRINGE On-The-Road is the touring arm of Perth’s FRINGE WORLD Festival and will be presented in Karratha for the Red Earth Arts Festival (REAF) for four days only from September 20 to 23 at Centro Carpark.
Built in 1905, the Spiegeltent is a travelling venue with old world magic and vintage charms.
She was brought from Europe to Western Australia thanks to Lotterywest and is travelling to Karratha with the support of Woodside.
FRINGE On-The-Road Festival Director Marcus Canning explains that the name Spiegeltent is Dutch for ‘mirror tent’ due to the hand made architecture of wood, mirrors, canvas, leaded glass and detailing of brocade and velvet.
“The Spiegeltent is a rare beauty and a star in her own right,” Mr. Canning said.
“Perth residents have already grown to love her through FRINGE WORLD and I’m excited to be introducing her to Karratha residents for the first time.
“We’ve programmed the Spiegeltent with a top shelf selection of cabaret, comedy, circus, burlesque and late night treats showcasing the best from FRINGE WORLD Festival and beyond.”
It’s a diverse and entertaining program spanning the family friendly, and hilarious List Operators for Kids to festival favourite Barry Morgan and his World of Organs along with the freakish stunts of The League of Sideshow Superstars.
Show tickets are $25 or $15 for concession holders.
Free entry is available to the Spiegeltent every night from 10:30pm for Late Night Spiegeltent Treats featuring Miss Burlesque WA Winner, Ruby Slippers, and her friends from Sugar Blue Burlesque.
You won’t want to miss their classic burlesque, elaborate vintage costumes blended with circus, comedy, music and crowd pleasing theatricality.
First in, best dressed!
Sugar Blue Burlesque is also presenting two workshops on Sunday, September 23.
In the Burlesque Bump and Grind dancing class ($27) women aged 18 years or older can learn the fundamentals of burlesque dance, how to be a total glamour queen, how to walk in sky-high heels, and how to exude sex appeal.
The Vintage Hair and Makeup class ($37) will teach the tricks of the trade to transform yourself into a 1920s vamp or flapper, an elegant 1930s starlet, a glamorous 1940s siren or a sassy 1950s pinup.
There is a bar inside the Spiegeltent with beverage and food options nearby.
The Spiegeltent has limited capacity so we recommend that you book online now at www.fringeontheroad.com.au.
Thanks to Woodside, there are four family passes to giveaway for the show, The List Operators for Kids.
Each family pass is four adult tickets and can be used on any one of the show dates.
The first four people to email boxoffice@fringeworld.com.au will receive a family pass.
