On Tuesday, 24th November, Sue Hedley, founder of SAFE, attended the KSHS Assembly to acknowledge the work of the Year 10 Girls’ English Class, who have been writing the ‘Pet of the Week Profiles’ that are published in the Pilbara Classies each week.

Ms Hedley presented Miss Harris with a certificate to acknowledge the Class involvement, and awarded each student with a voucher which had been donated by Elephant Juice, Just You, Nirvana, Other Place, Head of Time and Beauty in Vogue.
Ms Hedley thanked the class for their ongoing support, and in particular the quality of the profiles they have produced reliably on time each week, without fail.
The class has been in charge of creating the profiles since the end of April this year. Approximately half of the pets that the class have profiled during this time have been adopted, which is a fantastic outcome.
Each week students interview the current carers of the week’s ‘profile pet,’ then one student writes the profile and shows it to her peers for feedback.
This has enabled the students to develop partnership skills and a strong team ethic.
By participating in this venture students are completing English assessment tasks in both the Writing and Speaking and Listening strands, and are also completing community service hours which are acknowledged when they graduate in Year 12.
In addition to this, students are assisting one of the most worthwhile
and community spirited charities that we have here in the Pilbara.
KSHS looks forward to maintaining an ongoing partnership with SAFE in the new year. Anyone interested in supporting SAFE in any way should contact Ms Hedley.
