 40 under 40 winners Sean and Lisa Western Australia's top young business achievers were announced to a crowd of 700 people at the Gala Awards on Wednesday, 17 February 2010.
Two of the states top 40 under 40 are local Karratha residents and business owners Sean and Lisa Clarke from McLaren Hire.
The husband and wife team have not only achieved success together but have now been recognised as individuals.
Its not very often that both a husband and wife are nominated in the same year, so for both of them to win was exciting and very pleasing.
Local business owner Mark Blayney from Carr Civil Contracting nominated Sean and Lisa.
“It’s was quite an honour and a surprise to be nominated” explains Lisa.
“It was very kind of Mark to nominate us” she added.
40 under 40 is designed to celebrate the depth of business talent in Western Australia, that's why there are 40 winners.
The awards recognise not only the determination and commercial drive of these individuals but also the philanthropic pursuits that balance their corporate achievements and acknowledge their less public contributions to the state’s we;fere.
Lisa won her award based on her personal achievements as Managing Director of McLaren Hire.
Lisa believes her most significant achievement has been founding and building McLarens Hire from one vehicle to a fleet of more than 500 during a time of skepticism and doubt.
Since its establishment McLarens has to date doubled its yearly growth and is now in the position to compete with other big businesses within the industry.
“When my husband Sean and I arrived in Karratha we noticed a huge opportunity to supply vehicles to mining companies”
“On his first day at work in Karratha as a welder, Sean put a proposal to his boss.
If we could source the vehicles would he hire from us? His answer was yes and the McLarens Hire era began”
“Sean continued to work on the Woodside LNG expansion while I expanded the business as demand for our product and services grew” Lisa explains
Lisa attributes her success to several key factors including keeping a clear vision of where the business is heading, a fresh an innovative approach to business and keeping up to date with industry knowledge.
Sean also received his award for his personal achievements in his role as Managing Director at McLarens.
Sean has a hardworking background which he feels attributes to his successes.
His main focus has been fleet management and maintenance procedures of the ever expanding fleet, and is based at their Port Hedland office.
McLarens Hire supplies vehicles to the mining and corporate sector and to the general public.
Their niche market is specialising in customised hire solutions for company fleets. |
