Roebourne Shire Council welcomed its newest elected member Joanne Pritchard at a special swearing in ceremony last Monday night.

Mrs Pritchard claimed victory over fellow candidate Julie Pope, 1079 votes to 372, in one of the Shire’s biggest by-election turnouts in years.
She will join Councillors Nicole Lockwood, Harry Hipworth, Des Rothe, Fay Cechner and Evette Smeathers representing the Karratha Ward, her term expires October 2013.
Roebourne Shire Council president Nicole Lockwood thanked both candidates for their ongoing commitment and passion to building a brighter future for all Shire of Roebourne residents.
“I’d like to congratulate Jo on her win, she is a dedicated and active community volunteer who’s spent more than two decades working hard to make Karratha a better place to live,” she said.
“I believe Jo will be a strong, new voice for the Karratha Ward and Council is excited to welcome her onboard.”
Mrs Pritchard has lived in Karratha for 22 years and was a driving force in the establishment of the Karratha Community Association, current President of Soroptimist International Karratha and Districts, and a member of the Shire of Roebourne’s litter committee C.A.R.E.
She is committed to improving the environment, beautifying our towns, strengthening arts and culture, providing quality health services and amenities for youth, the aged and disabled.
