Karratha has played a major role in one of the biggest fauna translocation operations in Australia.

During the past four weeks, 324 golden bandicoots, 65 boodies, 111 spectacled hare wallabies and 104 possums have been airlifted from Barrow Island.
While almost 200 animals were taken direct to Hermite Island, the rest were flown to Karratha before being sent on to Lorna Glen in central WA or Cape Range National Park near Exmouth.
Last Friday afternoon many of the people from Karratha who made this massive operation happen were at Karratha airport to be honoured for their efforts.
Department of Environment and Conservation senior principal research scientist Keith Morris was present at the airport to acknowledge everyones efforts.
Representatives of the organisations involved including the Shire of Roebourne, Karratha Airport Management, Jayrow Helicopters and Pilbara Wildlife Group were all present.
