Over the long weekend earlier this month 26 swimmers from the Karratha Amateur Swimming Club headed to the small town of Northam for 2010 Country Pennants Swimming Championships.

29 country towns and approx 600 swimmers in 5 different divisions participated in this annual event.
Swimmers from Karratha Amateur swimming club ranging in age from 7 to 40 competed against other clubs in the 'B' grade section.
Karratha swimmers had enormous success with all 26 swimmers bringing home at least one medal and most swimmers getting personal best times in their events.
Karratha took out the 'B' grade overall relay trophy and were the overall winners of our division bringing home the 'B' grade pennant flag.
There were some very exciting races over the weekend.
The relays were fast paced and we saw some spectacular racing from the open mens and womens relays.
The younger swimmers also had enormous success in the relays with many young swimmers swimming up in higher age groups to make up teams.
Thanks goes to all the parents who assisted at the event and a special thanks to the fantastic coaches who attended the event, Rosie Starling, Sara McRobb, Monica Plane and Kylie Rann.
A special thanks to Rosie Starling and assistant Kylie Rann in training the swimmers 4 days a week prior to the event.
Club members have been training several days a week in the lead up to the Country Pennants and this hard work and dedication was reflected in their excellent performance in Northam.
Abbey Starling earned special recognition at the meet, being awarded a certificate for placing amongst the top 6 swimmers for the 100m breaststroke for the entire meet.
Karratha haven't participated in this event since 2003.
The 2004 event was cancelled in Port Headland due to a cyclone & after deciding to participate again in 2009, Karratha had to withdraw from the event in Carnarvon as a cyclone was threatening the coast.
After having such enormous success this year the swimming club is already organising preparations for next years event.
As you can imagine, such an event needs enormous organization and fundraising to help cover some of the costs.
The 2011 Country pennants is in Kambalda, so if you can assist in sponsoring or help our swimmers in some way then please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
