Police have been investigating a number of offensive calls made to advertisers in Pilbara local newspapers over the last week.

The frightening run of phones calls began around 27th February, with one woman being harrassed dozens of times by a man described as having a kiwi accent.
Seargent Alby Vandernberg from Karratha Police said that they were pretty close to finding out who the offender was.
“We’ve got quite a few details from people who have these received calls and have identified the phone number that’s been used” he said.
The calls were described as being “fairly indecent, definitely at the higher end of the scale”
“Unfortunately this sort of thing is not uncommon”
The offender, if caught will likely be charged with improper use of a carrier service, a Commonwealth offence which carries a maximum jail term of 3 years.
Pilbara Echo are cooperating with Karratha Police, and would like advise anyone who receives a prank call to immediately call their phone service provider to have the nuisance caller blocked.
If the calls persist, or you feel threatened please contact Karratha Police.
