The Bulldogs travelled to Karratha for the top of the ladder clash on Saturday 17th July with one goal in mind and after four hours of hard fought football came away triumphant with two wins.
The league started with Rovers showing the Falcons they were here to play and in the first part of the first quarter Rovers peppered the goals and it was only the Falcons backline applying great pressure that kept them in the game. The first break saw Rovers 2.10 to Falcons 1.4. The second quarter saw the Falcons settle with the backline and midfielders beginning to gain ascendancy. A couple of excellent passages of play resulted in a 5 goal quarter for Falcons to go to the main break Falcons 6.6 Rovers 2.10. The third quarter was an even tussle with both teams scoring 2.1 a piece to end the third quarter Falcons 8.7 Rovers 4.11. The last quarter saw both teams hard at the ball and it was only at the 19 minute mark that Rovers hit the front for the first time since the second quarter to lead by 8 points. Falcons then scored a late goal to reduce the deficit to under a goal. The last few minutes of the game saw Rovers score 4 points to end the game Rovers 8.19 Falcons 9.7. The Reserves game was also a hard fought affair with Rovers dominating early in the first quarter and it was only two late goals by Adrian Third that saw the score at Falcons 3.0 Rovers 3.4 at the first break. Falcons kicked truly in the second quarter and went into halftime 4 points up, Falcons 7.2 Rovers 5.8. The third quarter saw Falcons kept goalless while Rovers inaccuracy in front of goal continued and they went into the last with a 1 point lead. Rovers 6.12 Falcons 7.5. Rovers then kicked away in the last to run out winners by 14 points. Rovers 9.15 defeated Falcons 8.7. Also on the 17th July we saw Sully play his 100th game for the Falcons Football club. Shaun sets another couple of records for the Falcons by becoming the youngest player [23]to reach 100 games, the quickest to play 100 games having missed only 1 game in the past 6 years and by becoming the first father, John Sullivan and son combination to play 100 games each for the club. Shaun has proved to be a first class forward for the Falcons, being the leading goal kicker for the Falcons for the past 4 years, kicking a record 17 goals in a game in 2009, NPFL Leading Goal Kicker in 2009 and is a 2006 Premiership player. Quite a record as a player but Shaun has also served on the committee, is currently the players social club coordinator and is always helping out around the club. Congratulations to Shaun on a fantastic contribution to the Falcons Football Club from all the players and supporters. Also congratulations goes to Westy on 50 games for the Karratha Falcons. This adds to his 150+ games for Curtin Wesley and 50+ games for the Geraldton Bulldogs. Westy has established himself as a bit of a legend at the Falcons Football Club both on and off the field. On the field he is a fantastic on-baller, a goal sneak and a great team player, whilst off the field his support and contribution to the club is outstanding and much appreciated by all. |
