Shire of Roebourne Emergency Services Officer Mike Booth, will be door knocking for the Red Shield Appeal, with Envoy Warren Brook. They are calling for volunteers to help out on the weekend of 23 and 24 May The Salvation Army has issued a call for volunteers for the National Red Shield Appeal Doorknock on the weekend of 23 – 24 May.
The Salvation Army’s aim is to mobilize over 100,000 collectors across the country and hope to knock on as many doors as possible. “It only involves about two to three hours and we are encouraging people to form teams of four with a driver. Volunteers could make it a social event with a barbecue afterwards. It is very rewarding and you will be helping to assist those less fortunate in our community,” said Major Gary Masters, Appeal Director. “The Salvos need to reach a national Doorknock goal of $9 million to maintain services in the year ahead. The overall Red Shield Appeal, which includes a business appeal and direct mail campaign, has a national target of $73 million.” The Salvation Army in Karratha provides many valuable services to the community. These include a women’s refuge, youth emergency accommodation, family support, chaplaincy, crisis counselling and community meals to name just a few. “This year, Australians have faced - and supported each other through - not only the economic downturn, but unprecedented natural disasters. For The Salvation Army also, across the cities and the bush, these issues have placed greater than ever demand upon our services, with more people turning to us for help. “However, experience would tell us that when times are tough, Australians just dig deeper,” said Major Masters. People wishing to volunteer for the Doorknock weekend on 23 - 24 May or donate to The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal can call the Karratha branch on 9185 2148, the Salvos’ National Hotline number on 13 SALVOS (13 72 58) from anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call, or visit our website salvos.org.au. Donations can also be made at any Westpac branch, or by posting your cheque to PO Box 9888, Perth WA. |
