South Hedland Trainer Dean Cocivera quinelled The $15,000 Shire Of Roebourne Harding Cup (1400m), with his two consistent gallopers, Time Star and Grasa Express. In a very even field, including six last start winners, it was Cocivera who enjoyed the spoils. Marshall Jensen went to the front, with Vodka Lime on his outside, while Time Star always travelled well in 5th place. In the straight, the field fanned across the track, with Time Star, perfectly ridden by David Randall eventually hitting the front. However, it was his stablemate, Grasa Express, who was charging home strongly, who presented the main danger. Time Star held on, but Grasa Express may have won in one more stride. Carnarvon galloper, Classic Force, who is one of the biggest horses going around, was a huge run to finish 3rd, after being caught wide all the way. Flirtson produced an outstanding Roebourne Cup guide with a withering finish in The $9,000 All Seasons Publicans Purse Handicap (1800m). After settling 2nd last in running, Flirtson came with a huge dash to rundown Savage Wolf and Mutismo. Whilst, Flirtson’s run was enormous, he only got there in the last stride, winning by the shortest possible margin and the run of Savage Wolf was still outstanding. The 2 runners will meet again in The Roebourne Cup and Savage Wolf may have a weight advantage over Flirtson. The Roebourne Cup promises to be a great race, with the runs of Mutismo and Radio Pleasure also proving very satisfactory. The Anne King stable and jockey, Noel Rudland combined with Flirtson and also Whoville High, who took out The $8,000 Carr Civil Handicap (1600m). Whoville High led all the way and withstood a strong finish from Oro Rojo, who charged home late. Consistent galloper, Rex The Robber, finally broke through in The $9,000 Chameleon Resources Ladies Bracelet (1200m). The Len Healey trained gelding was settled back in the field by jockey, Jeffrey Berry and he really rallied late in the final 100 metres to rundown Aqua Storm and Running Home. Exmouth trained, Dragon Express was another galloper who came with a strong finish to win The $7,500 Portaccomm Handicap (1400m). He was second last around the home corner, but won with a little up his sleeve on the line from Dakota Conflict and One Last Favour. Jockey, David Randall rode a double after winning on Time Star and Talk Ov The Street in The $7,250 Horizon Power Maiden (1200m). Talk Ov The Street was given a nice run on the rails behind the leaders and was a welcome win for Port Hedland Trainer, BJ Keys. A big crowd of over 2,000 people attended The Ladies Day meeting, with The Club now looking forward to a huge XXXX Gold Roebourne Cup day on Saturday, July 24. Melbourne Cup winning jockey, John Letts will be a special guest. Port Hedland will host their Ladies Day and Fashions on The Field day, this Sunday, July 18. |
